What did I learn yesterday on my 70th birthday? A lesson I will continue to ponder, today.
As mentioned on this blog, several of my friends and myself are practicing A Course In Miracles together. I have been studying this awesome piece of iambic pentameter of art since 1980, intermittently.
When the Course says the world is not real, I’ve come to realize the world does exist. The trick is to not stay rooted in the world of form and fear, suffering, and the thinking of the world. We take one foot and place it in the world of formlessness, of unconditional love, of forgiveness, even as we keep the other foot in the world we were born into. We can then live on several planes of consciousness at once, however many you choose to relate to.
“Be in the world, but not of it.” Jesus
Romantic love comes to mine. When we first fall in love, as I am sure most reading this have done several times, we are quickened by the energy of love, and glimpse the great potential of what love is and can teach us. If we stay with this person whom we’ve fallen in love, invariably the love becomes conditional. As we are falling in love, suddenly we love everyone. We got to catch a glimpse of what true unconditional love is.
I want to love everyone and not just one person. Tomaso and I were growing into an unconditional loving awareness, with many bumps in the road along the way. Now the bond with Tomaso grows as I continue to love him and all that he represents to me: a crazy Irish scoundrel, great storyteller, and lover of all beings everywhere. OM
