Recovery From Western Civilization is a lifelong process. The culture we live in has programmed us into “stinking thinking,” that more is not enough, change is to be avoided and my needs can only be met by outside influences.
The definition of success must be reevaluated.
Once radical honesty overtakes the reality in which we find ourselves, Step One Recovery can be applied.
Alcoholism is an example affecting all of us albeit through family, ancestors and self (denial). Step 1 Recovery can be applied to any addiction, such as over spending, unbalanced diet, sedentary lifestyle, and much more.
Step One says: “We admitted we were powerless over alcohol (etc) and that our lives had become unmanageable.”
The first step requires rigorous honesty. You have to confront “I have a problem that I need to change: problems relating to a partner or friend, over eating, over consumption of drugs/alcohol.”
This is the first step to move the challenge from unconscious to conscious awareness. At that moment, you begin to believe in the possibility for that problem or challenge to change.
When you keep on doing what you’ve always done, your challenge is likely to keep you in a cosmic state of discontent.
Find a partner to review the inventory you’ve created as a result of bringing the unconscious to conscious knowing.
Make a list of all those people you’ve harmed as a result of the life you’ve lived prior to the entry point of a spiritual awakening.
Ask for forgiveness as you release all harmful behaviors into the ethers. OM
